May, 2006 - Prolieve Thermodilatation System for treatment of BPH.
Western
New York Urology is pleased to make available to our patients the Prolieve
Thermodilatation System for treatment of BPH. This less invasive treatment
is an option if you have moderate to severe symptoms and your prostate
gland is the right size. The treatment is performed in our office and
requires no general anesthesia or incisions. The 45-minute treatment
is designed to relieve pressure on the prostatic urethra resulting in
an improvement in urine flow. During the procedure, a balloon attached
to a catheter opens up the prostatic urethra while microwave heat reduces
the enlarged tissue of your prostate and improves urine flow. The majority
of men leaves the office without a catheter and experience few post-treatment
complication or side effects.

If your urologist recommends surgery to treat your prostate cancer, you may be a candidate for a new, less invasive approach to surgery called da Vinci Prostatectomy. This approach to prostatectomy provides access to the internal anatomy through five small incisions. The surgeon is empowered to perform a very precise, nerve-sparing operation with the da Vinci Surgical System.
