Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Trust Our Urology Clinic to Provide Care You Can Rely On
Benign prostatic hyperplasia, more commonly known as BPH is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate. It is one of the most common prostate related problems in men. The number of men diagnosed with BPH progressively increases with age. By 60 years of age, approximately 50% of all men will develop some signs of BPH, which will require treatment.
Symptoms of BPH include slowness or dribbling of urinary stream, hesitancy or difficulty starting urination, frequent urination, feeling of urgency and/or sudden need to urinate and the need to get up in the middle of the night to urinate. There are many treatment options available for BPH including medication, surgery and minimally invasive treatments including UroLift, Transurethral Microwave Therapy (TUMT), Transurethral Needle Ablation (TUNA) and Intraurethral Stents.
At Western New York Urology Associates, we are proud to be the only Urolift Center of Excellence in New York State and 1 of only 8 in the nation at the time of the award. If you suspect you are suffering from BPH, call our urology clinic to speak to our doctors today.
Learn More About The UroLift System for BPH
Serving patients throughout the Jamestown, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Lockport, Springville, Sanborn, Batavia, and Orchard Park areas, Western New York Urology Associates is proud to offer an innovative treatment called The UroLift System to help manage and treat BPH.
The UroLift System is a new, minimally invasive approach for those seeking an alternative to drug therapy or more invasive surgery. The UroLift System is a straightforward procedure that utilizes tiny implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue out of the way so that it no longer blocks the urethra.
Clinical data has proven that UroLift System treatment is safe and effective and can improve BPH symptoms 3-4 times greater than with medication. Results have shown durability to two years with no impact to sexual function. The goal is to relieve you of bothersome urinary symptoms, so you can get back to life and resume daily activities.
Most common adverse reported events include hematuria, dysuria, micturition urgency, pelvic pain, and urge incontinence. Most symptoms were mild to moderate in severity and resolved within two to four weeks after the procedure.
How the UroLift System Works
The UroLift System consists of a delivery device and permanent implants. The implants are delivered during a minimally invasive treatment and act like window curtain tie-backs, holding the lobes of the enlarged prostate open to relieve obstruction. No cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue is involved.
Is UroLift System Treatment Right for You?
The UroLift System is a treatment option for BPH patients who are looking for an alternative to drugs or major surgery. You may be considering surgical options and/or are unhappy with or have stopped taking medications. The UroLift System is appropriate for patients seeking a minimally invasive treatment and are concerned about preserving their sexual function and their quality of life, post-treatment.
